Looking at my local maps, I may have found an area suitable for short stay bushie stuff.

How do you find out who owns land? As several of you chaps have done so in the past I though I would pick your brains first.

Incidently I am now sleeping in the garden due to the heat! Well thats my excuse!

First, employ 'social engineering' (technical term) - ask locally; the pub is a good place to start, or find the local farms and go round and ask them.

Next, use the landregistry website. You'll have to be able to specify down to the nearest 10-20metres, as it's designed for houses rather than parcels of land, and if the land has been in the possession of the same farming family for generations, you won't get far.

on the land registery website do you have to pay for the use of it or is it free

the land registry website has come on in leaps and bounds since i last looked. i just used their mapping feature to find out who owns some woods near me!

nice one ODG :You_Rock_

cheers, and.

If the land hasn't changfed hands since 1989 it won't be on the Land Registry's records. If someone wants to keep their land ownership to themselves and it doesn't feature on the Land Registry you are down to secret squirrel tactics. Ask at farms that border the woods, or the local pub or somewone who knows everyone, maybe a local councillor?

I came up against this one a lot in my former profession as a land buyer.

Sometimes it is easy, others it is like banging your head against a brick wall. :banghead:

Good luck.

Stewey :D

Went for a stroll with a map, found a farmer and got a name!

On another land subject anybody ever negociated with a local council over land use? The spot I have found is ok, but have my eye on a bigger, better spot!
