How bad are the floods at your location?

How many of us have been affected by this year's floods? I've got some hill water running through the living room but I've got solid concrete floors so it's not really an issue other than the fact that the house smells like a wet dog. The workshops are flooded but they were once slaughterhouses and are designed to flood to wash away the blood so no real harm done. Thoughts are with those who don't see this as an adventure...

Ohhh thats bad. Were high up so we only end up with the runoff from the neighbours drive who had it paved.
The backgardens been mud for months.

I take the dog out everyday, and its like that everywhere I go. Has been for months. Water shooting out of the sides of dry stoned walls like a fire hose. Roads flooded at every low point. All paths like rivers in woods. Complete bog.

Can anyone remember it being this wet for this long? I cant.

Because it doesnt affect the house, and Im well dressed for it, it doesnt bother me too much. In fact, it can be a lot of fun in the landy..:)

Must be awful though when it attacks your home.

That is terrible image dude, sorry for you, I hope you get it sorted soon, what are your damages or have you bomb proofed your house? . I was wondering how bad the floods where too with the people who frequent this site. I have family up by preston and I think they're ok at the munite, but to actually see manchester and leeds as they are is pretty extrodinary.

We're at top of the Wyre catchment. No flooding of property up here but the rivers were really high and out onto the floodplain.

We are OK (on a low hill). Several friends not OK, nearly 4ft of water through their house. Some just cut off and evacuated and a few whose businesses are flooded very badly.

All within a mile of my front door. The crew cab is in a paddock usually full of horses.

By the power of Greyskull! When you put it like that Chis... blimey!! :Wow:

I take it there used to be a canal in the middle of all that?

Are you still able to live at home or have you had to move out?

Chis that's a nightmare :sigh:

I don't even know where or how to start to offer to help.

Every good wish that things settle quickly, and you and your friends get your feet back under you asap.

The Calder valley is like Chis's pictures, and worse, all the way back up to Brighouse, Elland, Sowerby Bridge and Hebden Bridge, 20-odd miles away.

Seriously, how can we help ?
We're not close enough to come and pack sandbags, and I don't think they'd do much good there now anyway, and we'd offer a dry place to stay, but it's hundreds of miles away.

See when it's all bye though, could you convert a wee landing craft into the base for a caravan Chis ? at least if it ever happens again, ye'd float :)
Give Sue a hug, and tell her I'm asking after you both ?

Is it a bright side that the canal lock is no longer needed?

What gets me is the sheer volume of water... you wouldn't think that amount could gather so quickly. Been looking at the flood pictures on various news channels... its like something out of a sci fi film.

Very glad to hear it :D I hope things stay warm and dry for you.
We've had a couple of dry days though we're supposed to get more rain and gales starting tomorrow.

Our local Calders are running high, but not nightmarish high, iimmc. (Stevie'll be out eyeing up the fishing changes :) )
We have three, the North Calder Water, the South Calder Water and the Rotten Calder Water.
Funny how old British names persist, isn't it ?
