Today I popped over to my stepfathers workshop and had a go on his lathe, this is the first attempt at turning anything and decided to start simple with a hobo handline.

I think the wood i used was Ash, but not 100% sure on this.

plan to have a second attempt at the weekend. does anyone know if sycamore is good for turning?

these ones r not hollowed out, as its my first attempt at turning I would keep it simple.

will be attempting a hollowed out one soon. just got to work out the best way of doing it.

sycamore is nice to turn when green,...

thats a reall good piece mate,...first time or not its still good......

I thought it was sycamore but my step father thought it was beech. this was not green as it was the off cuts from my step fathers sculptures. still turned much better than the ash.

thanks for ur comments. ski surprised myself with these lol.
