You don't live too far from Walton On The Naze - there's a lot there on the beach. It not crystaline pyrites, but nodules. Half an hour and you'll have more than you can carry!
I've got some, but have yet to get round to trying it.

I colected a few bit's i thought were right, brown rusty looking and they even look like metal when i cut through them with a disk, but a local archeologist said they were "mud stones" i.e. metal particals picked up by mud rather than just metal :(
I'd be happy to take one from you, do you want a swap?

Have you tried scraping or hitting the ´mudstones´ with some flint, quartz or another piece of pyrites? The pyrite sparks are sometimes hard to see in daylight but you´ll notice a sulfurous smell if it´s the right ´mudstone´. The innerside of my piece of iron pyrites has quite distinctive silvery radiating lines.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi, I'd be interested in the Swedish army meths bottle. I've got a couple of 7 metre lengths of Endicotts finest paracord in olive drab if that meets your need.
sounds like a good swap to me:)
PM sent to Malcolmc
