Heres a poser for you...

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
A tough mobile phone with internet and gps which also worked from standard AAA batteries (and lasted a reasonable time on them) so they could be replaced easilly in the field or at work when you forget to recharge it...

A decent gps system tailored for bushcraft, obviously have all the normal tools a gps should have.
But also a social networking system for bushcrafters that can do the following
  • Meet other bushcrafters in close proximity

  • Leave useful waypoints to other such as an unused camp emergency supply shelters and so on.
  • Have a news section built into it containing upcoming meetups and courses
  • Waypoints with ratings to sum up the bushcraft eperience there

If such a wonderful device existed, accessing the bushcraft community would be far more effective.

For those whom would criticise having a gps with them, turn the gps off and use the rest of the services.

This probly wont happen but it wold be nice if gps manufacturers would make plugins or add ons to their devices for communities such as bushcraft and bushcraft related POIs.

Sounds like the basis for an iPhone app to me. I think all that can be done.

It's not a complex cocncept, an IT student could do it as a project. The problem lies in the marketing and design.
There are also a whole host of limitations if it was built for an iPhone. Far better to make it open source and universal
