Hello all

I'm a retired hiker, backpacker, backcountry (wild) camper, long time camping hammock user, and long distance hiker. Been section hiking the Appalachian Trail - about 1000 miles done so far. I live near the Shenandoah National Park here in Virginia - 14 miles from Swift Run Gap.

I look forward to joining y'all and hopefully my accent won't be too confusing.

Regards,

HOI

Almost heaven, west virginia. Blue ridge mountain, Shenandoah river.
Life is old there, older than the trees.
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.

Lucky you :)

Welcome and enjoy.

Hello and welcome to BCUK :)

The Appalachian trail sounds great, I read a bit of Bill Bryson's book when I was in hospital last year.

Hi and :welcome1: Is Hog on Ice your trail name for hiking the AT?

Yes but generally on the trail I go by the short form, HOI, since its easier for people to say or holler.

I've had the name for over a decade now - given when I slipped on an iced over rock that I thought was only wet and then after rolling through some mud to get up I made the mistake of hollering a loud "ooooeeeeeee" which the witnesses though sounded a bit like a hog call.
