Me and my son have a competition to whittle a greenman and the best one wins 12 pints of beer from the other. Had you been involved in our competition you'd have won 120 pints.

What's the wood? Have you treated it to get those colours? What tools did you use? Have you got any work in progress pics?

It's got a Zen Master look about it too.

The wood is oak. It was felled with others because it was sickly. I had to keep soaking this week because of the weather to control the cracking, that did effect the colour a bit by making the centre darker, but the coloured outer ring was already there. It was the first greenman i have done, the meditative look is due to me been too scared to drill the eyes and inadvertently making him bug eyed. I have thought of selling some of my woodwork but don't know how to go about it.

This is a lovely piece of work Xylaria. And it must have been even more difficult to carve because you have done all the carving on end grain! Really, well done.:35:
