Well what did everyone think? Personally I thought it was pants.

I'm sure the manufacturers of the oil lamp they used were happy to see the ease of lighting the lads demonstrated.
The log splitting was intresting, quite looknig forward to the stove making next week, it looks like an old safe he's using.

He's going to need ridge tiles on his roof to stop water getting in at the ridge, wetting his laiths that are above his Tyvek and causing them to rot.
There's no way on earth I would ever consider making biodiesel out of sewage fat cos it always smells of the stuff its made from. Some batches are fishy some like donuts. Make it from sewage fat and its bound to stink of turd.

If he didn't want to see the wheels of his shed its a lot simpler to just add a plywood skirt to the shed than dig it into a hole that it needs to be pulled out of when it needs moving.
Whilst the crooked beams look OK he loses a lot of height by using them and not something straighter.

Basically as he admits, he's playing at it.

I thought the programme was absolute rubbish, the days when programmes documenting interesting unknown people have gone and been replaced with programmes reflecting silly celebrity whims, television is no longer used to entertain and educate the public but is a vehicle for celebrity indulgence.

Same here, so much for the "hand made" promise and then resorting to chainsaws, explosives, welding gear and a tractor as well as a portable wood-mill and a chemistry lab!

Nice idea but very BBC!

I was really looking forward to this, having read about it in a completely different light in the newspaper a few weeks ago. Was a bit disappointed as being a fan of Grand Designs, I thought he would apply the same sort of conviction to the build...but it was, like previously mentioned, a bit of a play thing unfortunately :(

Still makes you want to buy some woodland though!

I have just finished reading The Tree House Diaries by Nick Weston.
Thoroughly enjoyable and light hearted yet informative read.
Then this program appears which to all intents and purposes seems to be a very close rip off of what Nick Weston did except its not a tree house and its hosted by Mr Pompous Mcloud.
I didnt enjoy it particularly as the content lacked substance and detail.
Shame, could have been a good series.

Whatever you think of it....its got to be better than Britain does pop factor. Of course he was playing at it - don't we all?

I like Kevin Mcleod,

i like his manner, descriptives and his passion,..

ok it wasnt our dream programme where he bowdrilled his poopoo powered lamp to flame,

he didnt persevere with the pull saw and drop the oak by hand,

he got a bit pssed off making shingles in the rain in February,

he didnt knit a hat and scarf out of his own pubic hair,..

but come on folks,.. its a TV show, it has to have some universal appeal,

if it was viewed by the members of BCUK alone it would be pulled before the 2nd episode,

what was the alternative??? Xfactor??

be gratefull there are a few programme makers out there that consider us, and our "thing"

watch it for what it is and shurrup chuffin moaning.!!!

The thing that struck me was his statement near the start where he stated his plot with an acre of woodland was less than a second hand car. depends on the car mind but looked to be a bargain given the current appetite for woods

I watched this with interest, and as most seem to I felt be a bit deflated by it, but hey its good to see somthing on the TV with a bit of interest and not any of this dam talent drol or anything that trys to be acting and describing itsself as a Soap Opera...

before I realy pass full judgement on it i'll watch the other parts to it...

Its good to see the interst but is it another case of I like the idea, but do we realy have to get wet and cold, and its better in the summer... but then again we see a few of those on this forumn.

I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. Like Jimmy's Treehouse (or whatever it was called), it was a bit short on useful info, and long on t!tting around. However, as has been said, it beats Lax Factor etc etc.

Not sure how long he's intending that shack to stay there, but he's screwed when the tyres inevitably perish.

When I was about 20 myself an a forestry student felled a beech about the same size as that oak using axes and a crosscut saw, to cut a long story short we had been ribbing the old forest foreman and some of his guys and he called our bluff. It took us several hours but it was very satisfying, the sawing down low took a bit of getting used to. To be honest, rather than giving us stick, I think the old boys were quite proud and more than a little nostalgic about the way they passed on thier skills and advice. Wish we had taken some photos.
