I have been incredibly fortunate to be allowed to take whatever I wanted from a clients house after the man passed away. The place we were working at had a workshop full of interesting stuff and the lady wanted it all just gone!

Its sad rooting through someone's previous pride and joys but I know most of the items will get good use and be enjoyed for another generation.

Of the larger machines I got these three, an old table saw, metal band saw and an old pillar drill. If anyone knows owt about them please let me know?

I know now there are lots of toolies here so will post any interesting stuff I come across. If I have duplicates I may pass them on here?

Got the band saw running! If anyone knows if these things need oiling anywhere I would be grateful? Just cleaned all the swarf out and found the table that is used in the upright position! I'm like a kid at Christmas

She's feeling a bit neglected, haven't been out on her for ages what with one thing or another! Some more of this weather welcomed so I can get the rubber warm again!

I'm like that with my GSXR, hardly touched it for ages.
Just don't get the time and funds have been pretty tight so I've not got it legal at the moment.

Got to get some practice in, I have an upcoming Europe trip booked in June, a couple thousand miles to do, not sure how my wrists will hold up to the mileage but it should be fun!

I would imagine that the pillar drill will have a series of drive sprockets inside to vary the drill speed. I'm sure you know that but worth checking;)

Not seen one with sprockets yet, had a couple with a belt and two stacks of pulleys where you change the gearing by moving the belt up or down the pulley stacks* and have worked in engineering shops where they had the more expensive ones that have geared heads and cogs to change the ratios.
Never seen the insides of the geared head ones though.

*May not be the correct terminology but it is two shafts, one with a pyramid of stacked pulleys and the other with an inverted pyramid of stacked pulleys.

One place I worked at had a Cincinnati Bickford Radial arm drill, now it was 20 odd years ago now so my memory may be off slightly but the pillar must have been knocking on for two foot in diameter, absolutely massive thing. Green if I remember right.
Sure that had a geared head.

I was drilling 65mm holes in inch plate (think they were to be sent to Vickers at Barrow) and it could have gone up a few sizes on the drill bits as well.
It was the kind of thing that would have needed the overhead crane to lift it into place.

Yes it has those pulleys and a belt in the top bit. Not sure how long these belts last, they look a bit worn? There was a few spares but they all look a bit aged?

Some more of the bits I got....

Should be possible to get spares, just measure them up. Nice to be able to change the drill speed. Looks like a solid bit of kit. Table saw is great, wish mine was so heavy!
