It kind of like the thing with cars,

You buy your first old car , it breaks down you whip out your socket set and screwdrivers fix it there and then, you put a dent take it home use hammer tweak the body work a little touch up and away you go, you hate it but are very fond of it.

Now you have new car breaks down, you just call RAC or AA sit back for a tow to the garage as it some electronic thing unfixable by hand, you dent it , back main dealer it whole new molded bumper and respray at huge cost you just hate it no fondness.

A man after my own heart...:D I hate the damns things for exactly the same reasons. My first car was an old 2cv "estate". It was fixed repeatedly with bailing wire, bits of wood and nail when the bodywork started to disintegrate..I liked the fact I could FIX it. nowww, not a chance. they are totally unfixable/unlovable...As to computers, they're only ok when they work and you got a daughter who can fix them for you...,:o :p

If you can afford it, and want something that "just works" without you having to think about it, then I fully support the Mac suggestion.

Linux has come on in leaps and bounds recently, but I'm still not sure if its ready for the "everyday" user yet. But Ubuntu Linux 9.04 (latest version) installed on my desktop, laptop and netbook with no problems (unlike earlier versons) and everything worked, without me needing to do any tweaking.

Indeed, my 3 usb mobile broadband decided it wouldn't work on my Macbook, or my Windows laptop, but was instantly recognised by the Ubuntu Linux netbook, as a 3 usb dongle and I instantly connected. It had worked on the Mac before, but I have never managed to get it to work on Windows.

That said, when you do have problems with Linux, it does seem to that much more difficult to sort out than the Mac or even Windows. And the Ubuntu help forums still show many people having basic problems getting Linux working.

And Windows, well going back onto a Windows machine after using a Mac and lInux boxes is like going to the dentist.
