Well I took the plunge and bought myself a "modern" knife. I had thought of getting a British army clasp knife but eventaully abandoned the idea. I thought ALL these modern ones cant be all bad, and geber's name crops up a lot. So I got the lariat knife. I like it, its chunky, blade looks thick enough to split small wood, it doesnt look too far out and space age. I havent given it any hard work yet so will reserve judgement until then, neither have I sharpened or honed it. So no real test idea of what the steel is like. Only thing so far as disapoints a little is that when its locked back, thers still a little bit of play in the blade. But then my opinel was moody that way. One minute (in the damp) the join is tight as a camels """"""" in a sandstorm. The next (when its dried out again) you can almost flick it open one handed And no matter what you do, whenever you take the knife out your pocket, its ALWAYS managd to lock itself shut, amazing as if by magic; and grit ALWAYS seems to find its way in between the ring and the handle.
PS I do not know what the small stubs at the end of the blade nearest to the joint are for? Can anyone advise me please? Is it to open with just one hand or somthig
cheers Jonathan
