I am thinking of selling mine and using the money for an Alan Wood version.

You could even have one in Damascus for that kind of money!

Still the same with 6 hours to go, though there is a message on there now saying there are 53 people watching the auction.

Sold my well used Woodlore last year. Bought a GB SFA, Ben Orford Woodlander Knife and a Swannie with the proceeds.........not a bad swapsie I thought, as I'd have never afforded all that kit otherwise.

When I sold mine, a Micarta one had gone the previous week, unused, for £400+.
Amazing prices.

Jesus! I wonder, with the various clones about if there is a market in counterfeit ones?

I think it's time to invest in the new up and comings, or thats what I tell myself as I try and justify my lust for a Ben Orford jobby! Insane money

Future heirloom? I very, very much doubt it.

The bubble will burst sooner or later, when people start parting with a weeks wages for what is really a very cheap knife. ...And when they realise, they could have a superlative quality custom made knife for the same money.

Thinking about it, they probably do realise that, but are buying them in the hope of making money from them, rather than out of any desire to own a good knife.

A wierd phenominen, bushcrafters selling their tools to make a profit, which are being bought by speculators to make a profit.

I am not so sure on that Martyn, as you say the bubble will burst and people will realise that it is a cheaper mass produced copy of a custom knife that has sold in its thousands. Admittedly Wilkinson Sword will make them no longer, but how long will Allan be making them for, if he has not stopped already (he must be sick to death of this design by now).

The question is who is the real speculator, the bushcrafter selling a tool for far more than its worth or the guy that buys it thinking that at a later date he will be able to sell it to a bushcrafter who will probably not want it anymore because he can get a better custom made knife that is alsmost identical for a third of the cost of that one or there abouts???

Interestingly, this is not the first WS Woodie this seller has sold...

The chap who bought mine had bought another one that week too, I presume to sell on.

The bubble will burst, and they will soon have had their day, but I find that e-bay seems to create it's own mini markets for things. Often second hand items go for more money that they would if you bought them new from an online retailer.
