As the trend over the last 12-18 months seems to be that there is a quiet push for citizens to follow such guidelines but as it seems the Ukraine conflict will becoming to an established cease fire and new boundaries drawn up.

( Lets keep the individual politics out of it please )

Will we see a continued push from governments to encourage some grass roots domestic resilience?

Agreed but since the booklet mentions conflict it is reasonable to consider with whom that conflict might take place.

While I doubt that Europe could ultimately withstand any of the supercontinents, the reaction measures might be different.

This booklet reminds me of 1940’s Iron railings also the notices that were put up in my primary school in the 50’s and the film “The War Game” from the 60’s.

I totally agree that a normal household should be able to withstand a seven day cut in supply lines and utilities. That makes sense. (60l of water per person will take some managing in most domestic situations.)

After that it will be down to some form of organisation and sharing of resources. Survival, even resilience isn’t an individual thing.

There is nothing wrong with a short reference document as long as it is genuinely helpful. I expect to see one here before long.

"reportedly providing"

Its all bottom covering.

If something goes wrong, officials will just say `Didnt you follow the instructions in the manual?`

We all know the public as a whole isnt capable.

Maybe , maybe not Bosnia , Serbia and the various neighbouring states all lived in harmony right up to the point that it didn't.

Can't predict the future based upon current situations.

We can perhaps take some encouragement from the fact that during the 1930s period of appeasement of an expansionist dictator, a great many members of the public guessed correctly what the future held and made preparations long before the government offered any advice or guidance to the public.

Don't really see that being fully true ,true for some but not for most. Hence - Normalcy Bias

Present then . Present now.

It's surprising how often what we'd now call 'prepping' crops up in books of reminiscences of civillian life in the second world war. Probably not surprising given the number of people around who had lived through the great war and remembered the shortages and rationing.

Plenty of references to keeping the coal cellar full, buying preserving jars, and farmers renewing and increasing their machinery, while huge numbers of Primus stoves were sold in the late 30s as people hedged their bets on fuel availability. All well before the government began issuing gas masks and air raid shelters in 1938.

Doubtless a great many did nothing who could have done, and then as now, if confined to a tiny property in a town or city there is a limit to what you can prepare for. Minor hiccups of a few days or a fortnight maybe, but a world war, nope.

My bad.

6L per person?
Per day?
In an urban setting?

I suppose I’d need to read the whole thing to put that into context.
