This is a massive news story over here, as you might imagine. TF1, the channel who would have aired the adventure show, devoted nearly its entire edition to the crash...

Of those killed Florence Arthaud was a sailing legend; having won the Route de Rhum and set a world record as the fastest yacht across the Atlantic...

And Camille Muffat was the 400m swimming Gold medalist from the London Olympics.... she was only 25..

There have been a few near misses in the shooting of various of these adventure shows, even Bear Grylls nearly got killed once... so I guess it had to happen one day.. A very sad accident!!

As said, it's always a tragedy. Speaking of helicopter crashes, there was another one here this morning with 11 presumed dead (search for survivors or bodies ongoing now) www.cnn.com/2015/03/11/us/florida-army-helicopter

If two wokka-wokkas flying in close proximity hit each other in what has been described as perfect conditions, and shortly after take off, it's very unlikely to not have a major element of pilot error; even if other factors might be contributary.
