Hi all, after 1 year, we (me and Fox Cutlery) decided to modify a bit the Parang XL, lets' call him Parang XL-Gen2
http://www.foxcutlery.com/it/category/7/machete_axes_and_country.html

This knife was born as a light machete, to cutting down thin, fresh and dense woods: a light knife with a high cutting ability. The Parang XL-Gen 1 anyway suffered any problems (bending/breaking of the blade) cutting woods larger than 7-8 cm of diameter.

So, the Gen2 was modified changing the grind angles and the way to work the blade. Now they are wider than in the Gen-1

From the top, "old" Parang XL-Gen1, "new" Parang XL-Gen2

Blade thickness measured on the 5 spots is as follows
GEN 1 GEN 2
Thickness (mm)
punto 1 2,9 3,0
punto 2 2,1 2,5
punto 3 1,9 2,0
punto 4 1,0 1,6
punto 5 0,9 1,0

Consequently, the Gen2 wheight some 40 grams more than the Gen1.

I tested recently the new Parang XL. Here on a nut-tree, 4,5 cm diameter, no problem

Here on a nut-tree, 7,0 cm diameter, no problem

Parang XL Gen2 is always a good cutter, also on thin brush if you need

Conclusions: the modifications done on the Parang XL-Gen2 meet what we want for this knife. Now the Parang XL is alway a good cutter, but also a robust knife, good to chop out also a small tree if you need it. You may recognize the Parang XL-Gen2 looking at my sign on the blade - AD design. Hope this help.
Regards,
Alfredo
