Having read up on the Fiskars/Gerber NATO Folding Spade, from forum posts by soldiers and outdoor travelers to gear reviews by Doug Ritter, I bought one.

In truth, I'd always wanted one, and am very impressed with its design, materials, build quality and capabilities.

In the interests of even lighter weight (in all my gear) I read a lot of favourable feedback on ultralight gear forums for the Fiskars Nyglass Trowel, so I got a couple of 'em, and they're great. For frozen ground, one of my large alloy tent pegs helps.

The Fiskars Nyglass Trowel is remarkably strong, and only £1:99 on eBay.
