I had a go today at a bit of forging and started to bash out a knife shape with no particular shape In mind.....more a case of seeing what I had after the bashing! The shaping went ok for my first time but my forge and anvil leave a lot to be desired!!
I used the same torches to harden and anneal the metal and it seems to have worked a treat. I used a 17 degree wooden jig that I saw on Wessex Blades channel and ground off the metal with a small Axminster linisher machine. The bevel was ok but a bit of practice wouldn't go Amis !
Dressed in some scrap Zebrano with 6mm brass rod I put a few coats of superglue on and it came up nice. I might change the shape as parts do dig in when holding it in different positions?
After a strop it slices paper with ease and also fingers!!
