First attempt at a leather axe mask

I liked the fastener on the husquivarna axe masks, so had a go at my own version. made from firm 3mm leather, stitched with linen, 3mm welt inserted. Dressed with nikwax. I made the slots with 2 gouge cuts either end, then joined them with 2 straight cuts. If they loosen up too much an additional half hitch will suffice I reckon

Not too happy with the finish and quality, stitching a bit rough etc, but its my 6th leather item, lots to learn.

Looks bob on to me! Took me a while to work where the strap goes but that's just me!!

It wraps twice round the axe, then gets gripped between the 2 slot's. I dont need to fully undo the strap to get the axe in, just loosen it an inch or so, no need to take the strap out of the slots. I am reasonably happy with this but have some design improvements in mind for the next ones. I have about 10 axes and only this one and my roselli have proper masks Time I did something about it.....
