As I said bourbon has always been a favorite of mine Michters and Blanton’s I think best I’ve tried up to now, a bit pricy for my pocket to be honest but as a birthday treat or similar jobs a good un. Any other bourbon fans???

And again as I said before who am I kidding I like pretty much everything really ha ha l. Although I have to admit it’s only in relatively recent times I’ve took to the single malts, I guess a few years back I wasn't ready for it. Palate had to develop or something but now I fully understand what you single malt boys have been been on about so that’s another style of fire side sippings I now like ha ha

I like a Bourbon, Wild Turkey Rare Breed is my go to. It’ll put hairs on your hairs, eyes and teeth. Michters is really good, bought a bottle back last time I was in the US. It should be far more popular than it is, quality stuff.

My usual suspects are Talisker 10 and Highland Park 12. Glenfarclas 15 if I’m feeling decadent.

If we're looking at the specialist fireside drinks rather than what I just like in the house then carriage comes into it... No mixers, so can't do a gin as I need a bit of Tonic.

Hipflask spirits for passing round a fire would lead me to commend Yukon Jack for sheer volume to alcohol ratio.

Yukon Jack is a Canadian honey based liqueur, made from Canadian Whisky and honey, advertised as “The Black Sheep of Canadian Liquors”.

All very interesting but the important bit is....

It is a 50% alcohol by volume, or 100 proof liqueur.
If you want pain, look no further than Pussers Overproof rum at 75% ABV. It’ll warm the cockles. Just keep it away from any sources of ignition.

I'm a scotch person typically. My dear Dad forced me into it by making it look appealing - plus he gave me the nickname FG when I was younger (Famous Grouse....)

I've never had much of a wide variety of stock like he had, but he used to share a tipple with me now and again of various different things he'd picked up when I went to see my folks.

He passed away in Feb and I've since had a few drams at home (my folks home, not mine) whilst we all came to terms with everything and sorted out next steps. He also has some stuff that he had bottled which no doubt one day I'll either sample or lock away.

For the more typical budgeter - I do quite like all the Grouse varieties, black grouse, naked grouse etc. Another somewhat standard I've had was Monkeys shoulder.

... But I'll drink most things..haha.

The "Whiskey Bible" attracts 1,200 entries this year. If you are interested in pure rye whiskey, Alberta Premium is not to be denied. 6oz over 4 cubes.
How thoughtless of me. AP Premium placed #1. Worth a sip or three.

After a hard day’s gardening (first proper dry day in a month!), I’m sipping the last measure of my Tamnavulin (Sherry cask edition) tonight. I think sleep will come easily ;)

I will be restocking via the Tesco club card special offers in the next few days. A Jura and a Singleton this time I think.

I treated myself to a bottle of Da Mhile (pronounced Da Vee-lay) last week. It's at the very top end of what I'm prepared to pay for a single malt but this relatively new Welsh Distillery produces very low quantities - mine is bottle 90 of 350 or so :) (definitely one for the occasional sip).

If any of you get the chance I think it's well worth a sip - like a slightly sweet Speyside.

uk mainly in the Midlands though
A good malt, decent brandy, rum, spiced rum, port, absithe, Jager, cinnamon Aftershock, gin, a non triple distilled vodka or even a ale or wheat beer or stout......maybe a theme there. Although drinking a lot less than I used to. Just good company and a fire even on occasion

How do you ever remember to do this? I have a cupboard full of very good boozes. I see them from time to time. I remind myself to get out some ice and have a slurp but I can't remember to do it. What's the trick?

Or Goslings 151 at 75.5% does make a lovely Dark & Stormy.
If you’re a rum man try anything ( except the spiced ) from Foursquare or the Doorly’s XO.
For whiskies I like Rittenhouse Rye, Octomore ( from Bruichladdich ) and the Lakes Distillery Whiskymakers Reserve Single malts from up the road in Keswick.
Just as well I own my own bar!
