Hey guys,
I practice bushcraft in a man made pine forest a half hour walk from my house. I like to light a fire when i go down there. The ground is covered in dry pine needles. Is there a danger of a forest fire after lighting a campfire here and if so how could i prevent it?
Thanks

Sorry fellah but:

yes there is a MASSIVE risk of fire, and one that is very hard to put out, you really shouldn't have a fire in a conifer plantation. Having your fire in a fire-bowl or similar might help but not much, it's quite likely illegal for those reasons too.

:(

Its a really bad idea to light fires in pine forests. The floor is made up of a thick layer of old pine needles and these can smoulder and spread.

I think everyone pretty much covered it. It is a big NO NO in a pine forest. Even if you clear the needles to bare earth, pine roots can catch and smoulder for months before becoming a full on fire. Dry branches and resin can also catch from sparks higher up.

when i was a teenager some kids had a fire in the plantaion at the bottom of our road it took most of the fire fighters from south wilts and Hampshire to get it under control not helped by hte fact teh estate had left the access tracks and fire breaks go to fuin ( they got prosicuted for it )
took a couple of days ot put it put and damp a lot of ground but several days after they left it flared up again nearly as bad but at least teh tracks where now clear to get to it
