Hi guys & gals,

I searched the forum on this but found nothing.

Any one of you know Feltons in Preston (http://www.feltons-surplus.com/).

I live in Lancaster, and this seems to be the closest store to get bushcrafty and cheap things. I don't fancy going to Manchester with all that traffic.

Btw, anyone here from Lancaster?

I have no affiliations whatsoever with this store!

Cheers

Mike

Is Tamarack any closer to you? Depends what sort of stuff you're after I suppose. Handy having somewhere you can go and try stuff on or look at stuff, but most stuff you can probably find cheaper on the interweb somewhere.

PS No connection to Tamarack and I'm not in Lancaster, but do come from a little place called Much Hoole, not too far away.

Hi,

thanks for the replies!

@scanker: thanks for the link, looks certainly interesting and is also closer. I like that! i'll have to have a browse on their website... are you from cardiff? I lived there once!

@h2o: thanks, yes I actually tried them, went to their warehouse, they mostly seem to specialise on clothing (sewing it themselves as well). also, they seem a bit pricey in conparison...

Yes I use Feltons a lot, its really good and everyones really helpful. I'm not sure if they have a card machine though, they didn't last time I went in the summer. Actually I might go today so I can let you know if you like.

looks good, although all the stuff there is expensive :D (i know is brands & brand new, so it gotta be...)

I am more after some cheap & cheerful surplus kit that I can trash... i do own most of the fancy (and very colourful) camping & climbing kit...

Mike,

What bushcrafty and cheap shops are in Manchester??? I'm working splat in the middle of it.

hi Matt,

dunno :D

I just assumed that in and around Manchster there are probably a few Mil surplus outfits...

I found one or two on the net, but it would be a hassle to get to from where I live...

Mike

P.S.. here is one http://www.mashedarmysurplus.co.uk/ and here is another http://www.militarykit.com/

I don't know how good thety are:confused: , never been there and have no affiliations...

Hi, I checked and they still only take cash or cheque. Hope this helps

hi

lottie, thanks a lot for the info. Now, all I have left to do is to speak to my bank manager (and probably my wife :D:D:D) to see if I can go shopping..

h2o,

they seemed to know what they were doing from first impression, and the owner was really nice & friendly. I also have one preferred pair for all my outdoor stuff, a pair of old Haglofs Mountain pants - they're brilliant!

I can recommend both SASS and Tamarack.

Have been using a SASS smock for about 12 years - still going strong.

Tamarack are the main supplier that I use for school.

Have you tried Taylors in Kirkby Lonsdale - Again we use them through school to buy Cadet boots and so on. Seem reasonable to deal with and take plastic! They have a good range of shooting, surplus and camping gear and may be worth a visit.

I've lived in Preston all my life, I've never heard of this place until now. I'ts approx 1.5 miles from where I live and 0.5 mles from where I work so I will definitely be stopping by for a look. Many thanks. :)

Hi,

SimonM thanks for the link! I have to check that store out, looks good! They have a wooly swiss military heavy coat for sale. That looks interesting! Was originally thinking for a start of getting an M65 parka again (had one and threw it away  ), but this might just be an alternative:confused:

sxmolloy: you're welcome ;)

Where do you have bushcrafty woodlands around here - I guess forest of Bowland maybe? Or southern Lakes (Grizedale forest)? Is there anything north of Preston (nr. Lancaster)? Or maybe even Warton?

Cheers

Mike,

I have bought items from Feltons on several occasions, and have been delighted both with the goods provided and their service and their prices. Very helpful and friendly chap on the other end of the phone if you need garments measured to ensure the correct fit etc.

Best regards,
Paul.
