Feel Like A Criminal

I got an email notification from Paypal today saying id made a fraudulent transaction, now thinking this was a scam, i went to my Paypal account, i hasten to add by typing the address into the address bar in Firefox rather than by clicking on a link in the mail, which i never do anyway.

To my surprise, there it was, in big red letters on my account history page, apparently some woman i sold a Road Angel Radar Detector to, via Ebay a year ago, yes a year ago almost to the day, has instigated a claim against me for an unauthorised withdrawal of funds from her account.

Now, she won the auction on ebay and she sent me the money for the goods the same day as the auction ended and i then sent the goods via Royal Mail recorded delivery, thankfully i still have the receipt showing the tracking number, her post code and house number on file, she has left positive feedback on my ebay account saying "item received quickly", so i don't see how im the one committing fraud, surely she is, as she admits to receiving the goods but is now trying to get her money back via a fraudulent claim on Paypal?.

Not once in the past year has she contacted me via Ebay or via email to say there was a problem, now ive told all of this to Paypal, sent them copies of her payment, the Recorded Delivery receipt from the Post Office, a screen print from my Ebay feedback page of her saying it was received and a nice Green positive rating, and a copy of the POD from the Royal Mail showing her signature and address when she signed for it last January.

When i advertised the detector, it was advertised truthfully and honestly and it worked perfectly, i even contacted Road Angel and transferred the registration via the Serial Number on the unit to her address so she could down load updates for it, it had all of the cables, in car power lead, mounting bracket's both magnetic and windscreen mount, the only thing it didn't have was the original box.

But now a year later she is shouting the odds and claiming fraud, im hoping Paypal will see through her as ive supplied copies of everything that shows it was paid for by her, and was despatched and received and that she openly acknowledged the receipt of it on Ebay, ive also explained that i have had not had any contact with her whatsoever since the transaction went through and that not once in the past year has she said there was a problem with the unit.

Thing is, i know i have done absolutley nothing wrong, but i feel like a criminal with this hanging over me, it's not even a lot of money at stake and i just cant get my head around why she has this a year later, it doesn't add up.

I just have to wait for Paypal now, i know there is probably nothing to worry about, but it's a horrible feeling having this hanging over you, when you know you have done nothing wrong, just needed to get this off my chest, as they say " a problem shared, is a problem halved".

I wouldn't worry too much mate, PP will sort it out.

I don't think there's a function anywhere to allow you to withdraw from somebody else's account, it's probably a balls up on their part.

Have you tried contacting her through her ebay ID?

Not yet Rich, i figured it was probably best to not do that if it was under investigation

I just had something similar.
I sold a car in September to someone for export on Flebay and just got a £57 fine come for having an un SORN car on the road.
All receipts etc sent to DVLA as it appears they haven't changed the ownership over to him. Of course I don't have his name and address as it was sent off on the log book DOH!!!

Yeah you;re probably right. Does she have a decent ebay feedback history? I'd raise it with ebay too mate.

Any chance of a screenshot with the personal stuff blanked out, just so we can see the language they used. I wonder if she's tried to reverse the payment from last year and PP have picked up on it?

I had something similar happen quite recently ~ paid, sent, positive feed back left and so on. And then the transaction was pinged as disputed :yikes: .
It's a really poorly worded catch all email and, even though I'd done everything correctly and as I should have done, it made me feel exactly the same way as your email did :censored: .

To try to cut the red tape and find out what was going on I phoned paypal ~ it wasn't the buyer who disputed the transaction, it was their bank.

Like yourself, I had both proof of postage and postive feedback and, although it took a while, the claim came down in my favour :D .

PayPal's non 0870 number is 020 8605 3000 (number goes to eBay, chose option 1 to transfer to PayPal ;) )

Digging around on Google it sounds like somebody's PP account has been hacked, it could be yours or it could be hers.

I hope PayPal sort it for you mate

My experience was getting a court summons for a leaving the scene of an accident in a town that I nor my car had ever been to in 2008. I was angry and frustrated about it more than feeling like a criminal.

As it turned out the retarded witness just made up the last digits of the index number she saw as she couldn't remember it properly and it happened to be yours truly:cussing:

In the end I proved that I was at home and I was told that she was done for wasting the courts time.

I will keep me fingers crossed for ya!

someone hacked my account last year a took £70 or purchased something for £70 and used my account, i panicked not nowing what other information of mine they had stole but as soon as i spoke to paypal there were pretty good and told me they had been watching the transaction from the begining and swiftly got the money returned to me, they deal with this all the time and no when somone is pulling a fast one(hopefully) good luck mate im sure they will sort, it could be worth sending the women a message just to confirm shes not getting your deal confused with another more recent one maybe

Tese are some of the issues that keep me off e-bay and PP!
I hope it is all sorted soon mate!

I'm tempted to join you John after what I've read tonight, some folk are ending up seriously out of pocket ($000's) when Paypal and ebay refuse to resolve dodgy activity.
