I have access to an almost unlimited number of very cheap, dried reindeer hides. I'm thinking of trying to turn a profit of this.

Have I heard right when I hear that exporting dried reindeer hides to the UK is out of the question?

I could tan them as well, but that would of course mean a lot of extra labour on me, as well as a lot of extra costs on the consumer's part.

I don't know about that although i have heard that it isn't allowed. But i have seen english websites selling em so why can't people import them. By the way how much flint do you want torjusg :D

Thank you Chris. I don't like asking people about their business secrets however. I have sent an e-mail to the authorities in charge of import and customs in the UK. I hope to get a definate answer from them.

A slightly more diplomatic way to ask would be to put your question on this forum..http://www.livinghistory.co.uk/forums/index.php

There quit a few traders on there who would be happy to help

Perhaps it might be a good idea to contact the department of agriculture (or whatever they are called in the UK).
I think there might be animal health issues involved in importing non-tanned hides.

Can they be made into buckskin? I'd be happy to dehair and buck any raw skins I can get my hands on. The prices I'm being quoted for smoke tanned buckskin put it way out of my league.

Checked on the prices today. There is no way I can make this profitable without drying them myself. Something which I don't have the room for right now.

The group buy skins are cheaper. Dried skins cost £16,29. But the shipping makes that into £47!

Fresh skins costs only £4, but I think shipping them fresh to the UK would be a bad idea.

When I get more space I will however try to provide Britain with cheap reindeer skins. ;-)
