Exporting reindeer hides?

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
The best thing would be for us to set up a rescue charity for reindeer. That way you can collect money to ship them over live and when no-one is looking we can dispatch a few as required.

Hello Torjus,

I’ve been looking for a piece of un-dyed, soft reindeer leather to repair this bag (illustrated at the URL below) for months and months, with no luck.

Can you help at all?

Best regards,
Paul.

If you know how to tan, than maybe. Got the mail from your customs services. They said I need to contact someone else... I will do that and come back to you on it.

I don't know how to tan, but this might be a good time to learn :D

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Paul.

HI,
I've just joined and would first like to say Thanks to Chrisanson for putting a link to our website.

we import reindeer skins to sell, and as far as i am aware if they are cured and soft it is OK to bring them into the country.
The problem arises when they are not cured for use, as the skin can then still carry any form of disease etc, which is the problem.
Even though reindeer are an unprotected species, it is the import rules from this country that are the problems, i think it dates back to the era of rabies in Europe etc.
Cheers
