Aside from meths, what other products can this burner burn safely please?
What about white spirit? Etc
Advice if you have one and have used something else would be great.
500ml of meths is £3.50 at Wilkos whereas white spirit is more or less the same for 2 litres!

white spirit is basically thin kerosene, could cause an explosion if you use it in an alcohol stove

Did you not realise the price of Meths before forking out on a TI burner?
Meths does vary wildly in price so just shop around. I think buying the 2 ltr works out a bit cheaper.

I am looking at prices before buying one and asking owners for any advice/suggestions/etc prior to purchase.

B&Q do a 2 litre container of bio ethanol which will work fine for you and is cheap. The other option is methanol which is widely used to make bio diesel. lots on ebay and very good value if you can collect. Ive been using the B&Q stuff for a year now and find it excellent. Its not on the shelf so you will need to ask a store assistant.

Alcohol stoves will burn alcohol based fuels. Some burn better than others, but methanol, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol will all work. You should not use petroleum based fuels. They are too volatile. An open burner stove will not explode, but you get a big fireball, and it's not much use.

Burn times
It seems this burner needs pre-heating so excluding that time,
I would be interested to hear how many minutes it would take to bring say half a litre of water from approx 10C to boiling?
assuming zero wind

and

Does anyone use a soft Platypus bottle to carry Meths in? (as it folds nice and flat and weighs little!) without the bottle failing/leaking?

Ok it wasn't done very well but while your waiting heres what I wrote 3 years back

and oh yes I did get a titanium clickstand in the end. Victim that I am. And the 0.6 and 0.9 L pots.


ive been using a small platypus for carrying meths for several years and had no problems at all, the red squirts caps you could get are great.

Just did my test too.
I won't bother to upload the vid as the results are similar to the others.
Cold tap water (not sure of exact temp), snow peak ti jobby with 500ml water took 5 mins 45 seconds.
I used a trivet on the burner, but as stated, you can sit the pot directly onto it.
