What would you say are the long term outdoor living essential skills
Bear in mind u will have your kit and to start with shopping for food cos food skills are things I want to learn while out there
So far I have

When you say 'Long term' .... how long are you talking? Is this something you are actually thinking of doing or is it a theoretical question?

What would you say are the long term outdoor living essential skills ...

Assuming you have the various permissions ~ Tracking and fieldcraft, foraging and flora/fauna identification.

If you're out for a year ~ skinning, tanning, spinning, weaving, clothes making.

>>> food skills are things I want to learn while out there

Seriously? You want to learn by baptism of fire and or trial and error? With potential for fatal error?

Ever heard the phrase 'Dead man walking'?

Don't get me wrong, with some level of support, I think it's possible ~ BUT... there's a very, very good reason, generally speaking, for us being a social species  .

Ropemaking, Net making, weaving, common sense, calm. Weather knowledge, hygiene, tool maintenance, Gear repair and maintenance. Knowledge of various firelays, Understanding of the properties of different woods.

That would be some `challenge` -that !!! to `survive` a full 12 month season living `off` the land in the UK -even with full permission of the landowners to take game and such -are you planning on supplementing your food with shop bought produce ???

personal hygeine and sanitation is a consideration if your doing more than a week Drewpie!

a skill most overlook,...

theres a big difference between camping and tramping,....

plus remember,...bushcraft without the "craft part" is really just ,....erm,..Bush,...

I take it it would be better to start your full year wild living in the late spring early summer? Gives you time to squirrel away some stores for the lean winter months.

So my essential outdoor living skill would be food preservation and storage.

Steve.

I didn't realise that all the craft side of bushcraft wood be needed cos when
Out camping you don't use them but then again maybe wild camping out for a year
Would be different and maybe that's why I think that

I mention crafts because when i lived out for 3 months boredom was a huge problem so i learned basket weaving and net making to pass the time. Not essential but bloody handy.

You could develop the craft side while out there so long as you had the theory in your head or a book. You will need money, you won't last a year on wild food/hunting, not on your own. I like the idea and wish you well in your journey.

learn to sew and a spare pair of boots repairs will be inevitable and as others have said food could be a problem depending on location by the sea would be a little easier than the woods
