My leather axe sheath split in the cold this year, it was also split by baggage monkeys on a flight.

The idea for an extreme cold and baggage handling proof axe sheath was born.

UHMWPE (basically solid Dyneema) seemed the obvious choice for it as its good down to -100c and is the most abrasion resistant plastic available. I also had some:)

Fitted to a Hultafors Bruks HY20 chopping axe.

I've had 3 attempts at making this. The first didn't fit quite right, the second split at the top as I was thermo-forming the plastic.

The third came out well. A nice secure fit.

The fit is tight for safety in case the strap ever came undone. I needed to fit a pull strap so I can yank it off with thick mittens without going anywhere near the edge. 2 press studs fitted in case one fails.

Made from virgin clear 3mm UHMWPE sheet.
1/4" brass Chicago screws from the Bay.
20mm Polyester Mil-spec webbing.
Prym brass press studs.

Hope you like :)

Where do you buy your plastic sheet from? I'm gonna build me a 'boggan/pulk hybrid.
