Do you like winter camp?

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I enjoy being out in all weather and seasons - winter is just as good as any other time. A couple of things to remember: warm clothing spending hours fairly static in the cold is very different from a winter walk when you have a warm house to come back to. Also, do your prep, including cooking prep, when it is light as darkness is very disabling.

Give it a try, the worst that can happen is you don't enjoy it.

winter is awesome, i have always liked winter the best of all the seasons, the sharp frosts snow and ice, crisp mornings and clear night sky......

nothing better than going to sleep under the tarp in the black and to wake up to a gentle pitter patter and white bright dusting of snow landing on the tarp....ahhh what a feeling..

when winter camping all of the above counts of course, but for me keeping fluid levels up is a must, just breathing in cold air loses water by vapour, then the walking around with all your winter gear on will make you hot etc etc....so keep the water and tea coming all day long, it will help with keeping warm at night by having good circulation....:)

one last thing, i always sleep in just boxers, or add a t/shirt if its really cold, you feel the benefit in the morning, trust me...:):):) keep your clothes inside your sleeping bag or between your bag and bivvi bag, they will stay warm and be damp free, then when you wake up keep the stove close so you can brew up in bed....;)

welcome and get out and give it a go...

regards.

chris.
