ive seen somewhere pictures of these holowed log type traps found all over europe in peat bogs.
they were made by the neolithic folks , any body know what ime on about?
The idea seems fine in principle but I think they must be targeted for a herd situation because the live hit area is quite small, so you need a good amount of footfall to make sure you get something.

I do know that in the UK we have deer skeletons with shattered flint arrowheads in them though.......sometimes with evidence of healing around the bits indicating that even shot they didn't always die quickly.

i have a friend in america who bow hunts with a primative set up including stone points , he says that some times the point will hit a shoulder blade or rib and shatter. i believe that a porely placed shot on a deer with an arrow would indicate a learner. i like to imagine a boy and father 10,000 years ago on the lads first hunt!
stone arrow points are still comercially available to the bowhunter.
