Okay, here is the question ...for bragging rights only :)

I have always needed two nails driven into a door frame about a foot apart. Just two nails is always fine. They exist to support the string.

Having re-roofed and doored a barn, new nails were required

In the past I have found a couple of hand forged nails in a privy door frame. I had to explain to the owner what they were for...this task has clearly been going on for centuries in just the same way..certainly since Roman times.

....so why does every self respecting homestead have two nails in a door frame:confused:
