Cord whipping and epoxy question

Hi Chaps, I have a crook knife with some cord whipping covering part of the wooden handle and was wondering if there was a way of permenantly securing it in place. I was wondering about an epoxy or some form of glue or even a varnish. Any ideas?

When I need a permanent whipping I usually use heavy linen and then soak it with waterproof wood glue.

Works a treat for me.

i suspect epoxy would increase the likelihood of hot spots when it is in use
when i made mine i just oiled the cord with the same linseed oil i treated the wood with
