You will be talking about combat 95 kit, a lot different to the stuff I am talking about!
Still think my original stuff and shudder when combat trousers are mentioned!

That what I mean - A long time ago!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: You Old Sweat You!:lmao: :lmao:

In the military befor you are issued combats you are measured (inner leg, waist, ect) so they should fit exactly how they are suppoed to, the extra length in the leg is due to the fact you are ment to turn up the leg and hold them in place around the boot with the aid of twisters (or elastic bands, in my experience the british lightweight combats are excellent, hardwareing, light, cheep (around £12ish) and dry pretty quickly. what more could u ask?

Thats a good one Apac,
In my experience, they used an elastic tape measure with one end cut off! So that you ended up with something more akin to clowns trousers. What fitted around the waist had legs long enough to tie knots beyond my feet, and the crotch hung between my knees. Maybe my fault for being the wrong shape, that or I'm wearing them incorrectly.
I prefer OG's, though I'm still blighted by the same leg-length/low crotch issues but I'm getting better at using the sewing machine to put those thing right.

you're just jealous.
the Army digs in, the RAF checks in.

I love combat trousers, but only for summertime wear. The Canadian ones (http://cgi.ebay.ca/CANADIAN-MILITAR...4941522QQihZ012QQcategoryZ70987QQcmdZViewItem) are fantastic and as long as I'm humping around in the bush and not on a glacier, they suit me just fine. Loads of big pockets fasted with the Canadian tape buttons, leg extenders for blousing your boots tucked inside the bottom of the leg (they fold down) double fly, reinforced knees and they dry fairly quickly.

What more can a bushcrafter want for summertime use?

I don't know about that, the heated floors in our hotel bathrooms in Norway were pretty cool!:)

Hey! Be nice to the Air Force pilot jocks with their "Holier than Thou" attitude! Just because they don't slog a rifle through mud with artillery blasting over their heads and don't eat stale rations and don't have muddy boots and don't have clean clothes and get paid more than your average grunt does NOT mean that they don't deserve our uhm...respect. Yeah that's what the word I was looking for. :lmao: (kidding, kidding)

I have always worn lightweights... 15 quid a pair from my local surplus trader, comfortable... brilliant really.

I recently bought some cragg hoppers combats style pants. Made from breathable waterproof fabric, light, brown and extra fabric in the knees for good movement. A bit pricey in comparrison but now i have no ned to carry round over-trousers... or to start reaching for the waterproofs in advance of the downpoor...

mine are heavy i might look into light weights see if i can geet along with them.

It should be remembered that lightweights are polycotton and not ideal for being around campfires. Now I know we've all been there and done it, but I recall that the army did put a ban on wearing them in the field at one point for that reason.

Actually they're nylon cotton, not polyester. And honestly, the burn problem is really not worth worrying about. I'm usually more concerned about cigarette burns on my CF trousers than I am sparks....not that I ever sleep next to a campfire. Unless a roaring gas stove counts? In all seriousness though, I've found that small burn holes in the CF pants are not a problem. I don't know how the British lightweights are made, but ours are triple layered with the nylon sandwiched between an outer and inner layer of aertex woven cotton. I think it's for hygenic and comfort reaons.

How are the British lightweights woven?
