I believe its still going, but haven't seen any since I was a school boy.
Just wondering what you folks thought about it.
I remember building a forge as a kid from a 40 gallon drum as shown on those very pages..
Cheers

i used to like the swat magazine, and the annnuals they did were pretty cool too.

i went off combat and survival when they had an article on the best ever survival handbook. they voted hugh mcmanners' commando survival handbook as the best! :-? apparently loftie's book was too big, and ray's book was too technical!

foolish people!

cheers, and.

Is that Hugh's book with the Picture of him lining his camp fire with Flint?

Loved to have seen that one blazing away - from a safe distance!

i liked the photo of the see through lean to, let's plenty of sunlight in! or the one with a dozen bits of kit on bits of string round his neck that you just know are going to be completely tangled after ten steps

cheers, and.

Browsed a copy of 'Combat & Survival Magazine' in Charing Cross Rd Borders last month. The 'survival' bit seems to consist of a brief field guide to fungi (article was OK but short) and...erm...that's it.

The 'combat' bit, however, appears to number the occasional kit review ('latest tanto special forces murderer throat-ripper special knife') and then a shed-load of articles on 'Czech special forces on annual Bulgarian gunnery camp', 'the wonderful odour of a freshly oiled pistol' or something random like that.

I don't mean to put anyone off - it's horses for courses, really, and I shouldn't scorn other peoples' interests - but there wasn't a great deal in the issue I saw to interest the bushcraft officianado.

Oh yeah - I nearly forgot (duh!) - there was a review of a camo jacket (I think) which was suitably modelled by a semi-naked babe. Very objective, I thought. In fact, it appears that for every piece of kit the review must include an unclothed woman.

Maybe we should start a XXX thread on kit we wish to see being modelled by pretty women? Gransfors Small Forest Axe being swung suggestively by pouting lady, anyone?

Cheers,

Mike

Having visions of a BushcraftUK calendar......

ok ladies.....volunteers required, can go into the bushcraftuk coffers towards some woodland, whilst on the idea and as we have a few hundred members what about a small subscription (tenner or so?)(voluntary) towards some shared woodland......?

A nice idea but I would think this would have to be a fairly localised group of people. It would be hard to find a location convenient for everyone!

Excellent idea,
start of a woodland community,

where do i sign!!!

I say!
Have acare!
I used to write for Survival Weaponry and Techniques - which became Survival and Outdoor Techniques - which became Combat and Militaria - which went under...
I used to do some of the Gear reviews and still do gear reviews fot Sporting Shooter, Gun Mart, Walking Wales and ...BushcraftUK!
Not take SWAT seriously? I took the paycheques very seriously and learned my craft of writing sensible gear reviews there!
I read some interesting articles there as well as "interesting" articles....:)

This isn't a critisism, but I am very curious why it was important enough to impart

Hugh McManners is best as it's the best illustrated
.

that you unearthed a thread that no one had posted to in over three years?
