For us civilians your best bet IMO is getting away from the cities, anywhere theres lots of hungy people there will be complete riots and killing.

What makes you think it will be any different in the countryside.
It won't take the hungry city-dwellers two minutes to suss out that the bushcrafters have a good idea how to get by and are therefore worth following. Then how are all the farmers and other country- dwellers going to react to hordes of bushcrafters being followed by even greater hordes of hungry city-dwellers descending on their green and pleasant land...
It'll be messy!
