Well, being playing around with my kit and cant seem to get a compromise between warmth and comfort with my socks. I tend to wear Bridgedale in different warmths summer and winter but been trying out army goretext and wool for warmth combined. Trouble is cant get the warmth right as when wearing two pairs my boots become tight which seems to reduce the warmth of the feet. What do yo use in cold weather? Not interested in Mukluk type posts as the weather is cold here not snowy and I need to walk on tarmac.
Most of my job involves standing on cold concrete. (in trainers:o )

Any combination of thin mixed type then thicker wool or thermal synthetic. Their thicknesses depending on the boots size as all my boots are slightly different sizes. Most of them a little to big so more sock more comfort.

I think you might have just answered your own question there Tommy - a new pair of boots to accomodate the winter socks. Its the tightness caused by extra layers that reduces the blood circulating in your feet which leads to feeling cold.

Good point Ogri, Tight Boots Are Terrible!

seal skinz socks are great i wear everyday and think theyre brill.ive stoped wearing my boots and wear walking/outdoor trainers .

If you decide to go up half a size or so to give you the space for warmer socks but feel grieved to buy a pair of boots you'll only wear when it's really cold you can add a volume adjuster (solid rubber footbed that goes under the original) or use thicker sorbothane type foot beds to take up the space during warmer times, works a treat :)

Ta all will keep looking at the Army socks option not sure about paying £13.50 for two pairs of issued socks.......will keep looking. Found a supplier of Altbergs locally just got to get a day off to try some on!
Ba humbug Dave

Looked for them but cant seem to see them on their website PaganWolf?!
Probably me being dumb.....those army socks at £14.50 + £2.50 +p&p!!!! D

Brasher do an ultra-thin base sock. Adding layers will always add more warmth than making one layer thicker. These do it with minimal added bulk. They are kind of like socks made from your wife's thickest tights material:o
