My folks just told me on the phone they've fished 15 dead ones out of there pond as the ice did them all in. So I'm guessing plenty more met the same end.
Yeah, quite a few are perishing and floating to the surface. Magpies will be the first at the scene.
Size, form, shape, location, 'ingredients' and a load of misspent years poking around with poo and pellets.

it was a pure guess on my behalf !!
Was the pic taken this January, Jonathan, as there is what appears to be a dead moth in the second photo. Possibly just leaf litter. There also appear to be seeds.
I've seen ferrets bringing up pellets/fur-balls. Could it have been one of their smaller cousins... stoat or weasel?

It was taken in January... date stamped, bottom right. No moth in there. It was magpie ^^^ see above posts^^^
