your house!
Fancied a new look to my trusty long serving Sak, lucky for me, my old boss, Mr F Of Castle Air Charters had his whole office suite revamped about three years ago, and I asked for and was given some lovely bits of walnut from the door frames. so here's how it went.

I popped of the old red scales this also removes the blade lock, drilled through the lug holes in the old scales to use as templates for the new, used a small screw driver to pop them off and a 5.5mm bit for the holes, also lightly drilled a dimple on each scale to accommodate the pin for the corkscrew.

Test fit.

You can see the rebate cut with a coping saw for the cork screw, i used small files for the final shape of this bit.

then clamped with F clamps over night( not so tight as to create any dry joints)

shaped and sanded to 250 grit, prior to wetting to lift the grain.

then sanded with 800 grit gently and given two coats of boiled linseed oil and a wax with ren wax. and here we are.

Hope you like it, It is a very simple job, if you have a drill, saw, epoxy glue and sand paper you can do it with ease, give it a go and FUNK UP YOUR SAK!

Thats a beuty Southey - good effort :wow1::eek:goodjob:). I might give it a go on some pound job penknife first. Dont wanna funk up my EDC in a bad way by accident. Got it from my grandfather extremely grand tool collection after he died (along with a hell of a lot of other tools, as did my 3 sisters and 6 cousins) so I suppose its sentimental.
What kind of SAK is it? I like the saw and second serated blade.

Nice job southey looks good, nice thickness as well.
One thing, I see you marked out on the new scales for the tweezers but did not bother fitting them in, I found this easy if you take your time, mind you the tooth pick is a bugger as it is so close to the corkscrew cut out, it breaks the wood easily.
I should know I broke Two of the on my first try at this then gave up trying.

Cheers dudes, yeah I considerer fitting the tweezers and pick, but after thinking about it they never get used any way, so thought better of it, glad to, I much prefer the clean lines.

Cheers matey! I'm not 100% about the type, I think it's a huntsman.

It's not a Huntsman brother. Huntsman has more tools and doesn't have that second saw( which is for cutting rope, seatbelts etc) the curve is mean to help with that according to Victorinox.

Do you know what year it's from? I've never seen a Victorinox with a serial number and the curvature of the wee saw is different to any model i've seen. Then again it could be a Wenger.

It was issued to me in 2003, propper Smiss army knife, Vic stamped main blade, the serial number is etched onto all MOD purchased SAK, Found it, it's the Hunter.

Mine had a GVQ stamp on the scales with the parachute over the V.

Nice work Southey.

My hunter has the green scales.

The wee curved saw blade is for opening the the hide/skin of your kill without piercing the gut.

either from your normal knife supplies , OR have a look the ebay for walnut then select timber on the left hand menu, or yello pages and look for local furniture makers, kitchen showrooms, timber merchants go/ give them a ring and chance it, nothing ventured nothing gained dude!
