Same set as the Uniden Uniace 100 or the Audioline 340. Considered by many (self included) to be one of the best 27/81 sets made, if somewhat basic.

Check the rating if the fuse on your 12v socket and the rating of the power draw on the appliance. For example: If the fuse is a 15amp but the cb drawers 20amp it will just keep blowing fuses. If it’s the other way round then it’s probably a good idea to add an inline fuse too to save you blowing your 12v socket.
I asked and it appears that a standard 340 clone (I always had Audiolines) draws a little under 5 amps on transmit, so you shouldn't have any issues. The radios I've been using for a while now draw *ahem* considerably more, so it can cause problems.
They're blooming difficult to post! The last time I got one delivered, the courier held onto it for a long time until they had a "oversize and overweight" delivery scheduled.
Easy enough to make one, just g search for 66pacific loaded quarter wave, it should come up with a calculator that will let you work out the length of wire needed. CB is 27MHz I think so put that in as the frequency. If you are feeling more adventurous search for a j-pole antenna.
I've always been a bit dubious about homemade mobile antennas. I can be a bit dubious about the ones I've purchased TBH!
How are you getting on setting your CB up? ... did you manage to source an antenna in the end?
I've got a T-2000 with a mag mount car antenna can pick up a fairly decent distance considering how flat it is here, i tryed my silver rod out on it sat up on a hill and managed to pick up someone in Northern Ireland so pretty impressed with that, I didn't try making contact unfortunately as was struggling getting my SWR down to a decent level, as I didn't really want to risk damaging the radio.
I'm quite new to CBs my self so have quite a lot to learn, their is some good books and information out there on the web and YT though.

Wow. This is a blast from the past. My student years were spent on the rig. I found many many good friends. Two of which I still know today. Power is the thing so you can reach far and wide in your area. I had a burner which boosted my signal. I used to annoy channel 19 by playing Bon Jovi constantly.
I havent proceeded anything. Too busy.

Its good you stayed in contact, yea CB still has a bit of action on it i think it depends on the area though as it can be rather quiet here, but as you say its all down to power, the antenna size definitely makes a massive difference
I know its ment to be really good conditions for DXing at the moment, I haven't been on the CB for a while now might give it a crak at the weekend
Is it actually worth the time and effort involved in getting a CB rig working ? Will thee be anyone else to talk to ?
My brother was a very keen 'Ham' (Licenced amateur radio operator) in the day, and spent a fortune on top-end kit. The whole thing has now faded to almost nothing with the proliferation of mobile phones. Why use an expensive radio to talk to someone when you can Face-time them in an instant ?
