i was wondering, is there any catapult 'lube' about anywhere? or does anyone have any good useful hints or tips about preventing the bands from cracking? i have tried using moisturisers but this doesn't work.

Banana oil?? :?:
I remember years ago when lads made them wind up propeller aircraft, and they used banana oil to keep it supple. Might be worth a try I don't know.
Or maybe just accept they have a limited lifespan?? :?:

to my knowledge . the 2 best oils to use with latex that won't degrade it are castor oil or almond oil ... but most oil based products will eat at the latex and cause damage .. if you don't know what is in the oil, wax, moisturiser :?: ... don't use it

There are a number of lubricants designed for... *cough*... Other latex items. In theory, if you could maintain a straight face, you could get something close to ideal, from a chemist :naughty:

try this on for size .. while working on the new Dr Who series .. there was a need for lubricant and lots of micropore tape ..... guess who goes to the big Tesco in Cardiff and buys them out of KY Jelly and Micropore tape ... and it was a busy queue as well .. don't know what the other people in the queue thought

Cool... I would have been grinning at shoppers and telling them all about your "record attempt"

According to the DVD extras for the film Alien, they used to buy it in gallon drums :yikes:
