Oops!
I love the feel of the traditional Shamagh but I cannot recommend it as work wear!

Obviously the tassels have to go but it isn’t remotely fire resistant!!!! Sparks from my powerfile burn sparkly holes in it.

It measures about 108cm which is standard width for many fabrics.
Next time I’m having a cream tea at Abakhan I’ll look out some material and make one.

personally i don't like shemaghs as i find there's both too much material and in the wrong places.
I much prefer a cheche.
Similar idea but better shaped as a rectangle instead of a square making wrapping round the head far easier and less bulky to use as a scarf.

I wear one almost every day, genuine not a Chinese knock off. I’m not sure the factory is still running, last shipment got out of the country across the desert in 4x4 vehicles. The blog on here and the history of the factory are fascinating. I have this one pictured below that I’ve just taken off after walking the dog, and another in brown.

Apparently they are restocking very soon! I've been craving one of the green and black ones. You just can't beat proper craftsmanship in a great textile.

Change the material then - Asbestos

I really hope so, the restock notice has been there for months. I’m on the email list for a Royal so will know when they do.

I have long hair and made some bandanas last year. I really like them for keeping my hair out of my face but barring being out camping I don't wear them in public out of fear of looking silly.

i've short hair (+a full beard), but wear headbands as they keep the sweat of my face (especially in our obscene tropical humidity) -- if i'd gotten one cent every time someone feels obliged to make a "rambo" joke i'd be rich enough to leave central america...

to keep in line with the subject of the thread :-) : i haven't tried any shemags, yet as they would be a bit too warm around here, but could see a large bandana useful when working with power tools

When you are my age, have hair down to your shoulders and a beard down to your chest it’s all the others that look silly!
Wear whatever you like wherever you like and bugger anyone who criticised.

Edited to add:
Yep, I wear leather headbands too.
