Interesting. Certainly forward thinking for the day. Perhaps it was because these people, being emigres, had moved away from the rigid, class structured thinking
of the British empire, and had become a more liberal thinking society. Even today in NZ, there are shelters and huts along the paths and trails of mountain and forest
walks, that are always maintained.
