ive always liked the look of CF, and hope to make my next knife using it as scales, however i have heard a couple of people saying that its very hard to work with.

so what are for experiences with CF from both a user and a maker point of veiw.

do you like it or hate it?

I have worked with it during my time playing about with aircraft and having to destroy components to prevent there future use once they were found US or had reached the end of there life cycle,

It is hard to saw when in any thickness over a cm,

It is hard on you sanding shaping tools in any weave,

Price = quality,

And you MUST protect your lungs, eyes and ears, this stuff is VERY nasty as an airbourne particle, dont think dust mask, think respirator with the appropriate filters, google if the resi has no eye protection built in and a dust suit with elasticated hood,

Having been lucky enough to have had a play with JonD's Deval bushy in CF i love it, the cross grain was super grippy, it didnt feel cold and lifeless like some man made stuff does, Nice kit if you can spend on the good stuff dude!

backed up on to a hard wood it was fine, it drill fine bit still powders up easily, it will splinter readily though, if you catch a fiber, I cant say i remember it burning but the pillar drills and power hack saws I used were pretty slow any ways,

Just wondering how it would affect the balance considering how light it is. :dunno:

*edit* Scratch that. That's one of the dumbest things I've said in a long time.

It's not light

Well it is if used for strength where it Can be thin .
Handles need thickness so its like Micarta or g10 and heavier than some woods.

If you could mould a shell then it would be light.

I made the realisation the second I hit the reply button! Thought I'd keep it there for posterity. :)
