I'm not going to make a new thread, but I have one of those cheapy Alu Oxide stones (240/400G?) and a DC4 with half a ceramic side snapped off, so I only use 800grit side, after stropping, as a strop I use a belt with pledge as polish, or ceramic thermal paste, after that I use newspaper then hone the edge with glass, like a window, it can shave hairs of my arm with pretty much ease, so is there any need getting a higher grit because people use 6000....

Thanks!

It depends on how sharp you need it... The higher the grit, the smaller (and stronger) the micro teeth= sharper knife/less sharpening.

I have 12000 micromesh, but its unused so far. Get some 800, 1200, 1500 wet and dry, a wooden block and some decent stropping compound. Jobs a good 'un :)

So 800 is high enough with a very good strop?, anyway if the knife is small enough I can still sharpen on the ceramic side of the DC4, but it's damn hard...

Thanks mate
