What a wonderful weekend! So many friends - both new and old that are really good to know and share a fire/ bowdrill/ atlatl/ flint knapp/ plant I.D. with. So many threads that will be spawned in the next few weeks from learning new things.

Some specific thanks:

- Shelley for finding my atlatls
- Longstrider, Twoflower, young George, Seoras and Rich for their specific support with the atlatl set up and running
- Tengu for the feathers
- every single one of the participants of both events I was involved in running - friction fire and atlatl - for all their hard work, enthusiam and generosity
- 3please for getting my stuff to and from the moot - nice one.
- Sandsnakes for the journey home...

Also an apology:-

to anyone who found hand drill frustrating. I suppose it should always come with a bushcraft frustration warning. You may not have been able to achieve it on the day, but I hope will you will practice again and learn more each time. There are one or two other techniques that can sometimes help - such as using thumb loops and making a team of 2.

And, I'm going to stick my neck out and say something about "community". Last year each evening there was a good sized hearty meet under the main shute each evening. Felt a good place to be.

This year - more families, more fires, less central meetup. But just as great a feeling of warmth and sharing - for me anyway.

It's partly a numbers thing. Bodies like religious groups find the same thing - if it grows beyond a certain size then you encompus more and more diversity of needs and interests. Many bodies move on by providing smaller hubs of warmth so that everyone feels welcomed into a manageable sized group. They still get the big get togethers, but not so often and it needs a bit more planning, seeking activities that welcome the diversity of the membership.

So, I welcome homely little gatherings around fires. And I also welcome big meets, to enjoy the bigger group sharing, get into great conversations and strike up new friendships.

Music was mentioned as something possibly central to a general gathering. Sounds good. I would suggest that there would be a wide variety of types - some for entertainment and some for participation.

Maybe if there are 4 evenings there would be a particular structure for a big social meet up for 2 of them.

The mushroom lady wasn't Xylaria by any chance? Mushroom Lady!!:lmao:

Good moot, had a great time and learnt some valuable and interesting stuff.

Thanks to Addo for picking me up on his way to the site, even if it was only for the last couple of hundred metres!

Particularly enjoyed Jed Yarnold's axe workshop and Stuart's talk.

It was nice to have an extra day at the end of the moot, I stashed my pack in the woods and went out to the dunes in search of a spring Stuart had told me about the day before.

I had a nice refreshing dip in it, put on clean clothes and walked back out to Bridgend.

Great stuff as usual. Who needs a headliner when there was so many skilled people about? Thanks to everyone who organised and ran workshops. Brilliant. Nice to meet so many great people.

See you at the next one.

Pablo.

Thoroughly enjoyed the moot, it was a great 5 days. Everyone there was so friendly and willing to share their knowledge.

The workshops were very good but it was just awkward choosing which workshop to do, with so many to choose from.

Nice to see you surviced Switch - we couldnt find you to say goodbye :D :D :D

$orry I missed you and Nick leaving.
I went over to get my kit from where twoflower and 3Please where pitched and got caught by Doctor Rod. He sat me down and checked me out, told me I had alcohol poisoning :o and set about making me feel a hell of alot better with his collection of remedies.
Anyway, by the time the good Doctor had finished and I took a wander back over to say goodbye you'd already gone.
Many apologies to you and Nick. We'll catch up next time at Canterbury :)
