As the title says really, I live in manchester and find it difficult to get about as i dont have a car and buses dont usually go to places that are suited to our needs as bushcrafters.

Just wondering what other people do about this and if there is anyone in my local area that might be able to shed some light on how they manage or sites that they use

Thanks in advance guys

Dave

Dave,..

i reckon a train then bus and a bit of a walk would just add to the adventure,...

As a family of 4 we camp using a pickup but,...

me and the mrs sometimes get on the train with a two man tent and daysacks,...just to a commercial site on the coast but the journey is nice,....

When I was a student at Southampton Uni, many years ago, I used to get the train to the New Forest and walk. Could you get a train somewhere like the Peak District or the Lakes ?

I'm in Manchester, and though just a conventional camper with an interest in bushcraft, you can get out into the wilds on bus, train or, as suggested, bike. The areas I'd suggest are the Goyt Valley and Saddleworth (though obviously it can be a pretty sombre place, given its history). Edale and Castleton, though pretty are full of tourists and hikers. If it were me, I'd look for something a touch more remote.
How about catching the train into the Lakes? Them just get off the beaten track. There's miles and miles of land up there and it's only a couple of hours on the train.

Train to Scotland? Or Maybe there's a coach service?
A few years ago a gang of us used to regularly get the cheap overnight coach from London to Glasgow. Then up the West Highlands etc from there. Coach was rough mind, if you weren't sick when you got on, you'd certainly come down with something by the time you got off.
Other plan could be to team up with another 'shrafter with a car?

The south Lake District is easy to get to by train, and there is a lot of woodland in the Arnside - Silverdale area, there is good fishing on the estuary and a good youth hostel in Arnside if it all goes pear-shaped !
