Depending on your boots, these babies would be hard to beat. I got a pair of the Berghaus issue ones, from the same company for a fiver a few years ago. If you have appropriate boots, then they will be great, they have plenty of room for your big calfs.

hiya Miyagi,
a mate of mine had big calves and used womens Hunter 'huntress' wellies as apparently ladies 'wot beat' have large calves, and he got on well with them.

Hahahahaha thanks for the heads up.

I'll look into it, but don't tell anyone eh?

Seriously though,

It's best to try and try some.

I've had a few and some are very slim.

These are mainly the front opening ones.

The old style zip at the rear are made to take a larger calf.

My next ones will be ventile with said old type zip.

My Barbour ones were a bit tight and my Fjallraven ones don't appear to be breathable but both are good gaiters mind, I do sweat a lot when exerting though.

My Berghaus Yeti gaiters had to be left on the boot, great gaiters but boy once on that was it.

Well I went ahead with the MK2 ones and they were ordered Friday afternoon and arrived Saturday morning. Tried them on and they seem pretty robust, tried running them under the tap for a minute and didnt get any water coming through. The top part is waterproof nylony stuff.

Though I am a bit concerned at the under strap, which is basically para cord. Im sure after a few hours walking through heather and bracken that will wear through pretty easily.

I see what you meant about the weight of them, seem a bit heavier than expected They also werent tight but then again I have skinny legs and they weren't too baggy.

I wiill see how I get on with them, hopefully get a chance with them next week on my course.

Remember the old nylon net curtains and the pvc coated wire that held them up?

The wire with a couple of the 'hook' eyelets does the job.

If you still get those..

I've a set at the top of my stairs on the "landing" window. Left by previous tenant I never bothered to change them cos they're great at catching wasps.
