The Rainy Side of the Lakes.
Try anything by RM Patterson ( The Dangerous River is a favouite of mine, about his prospecting, canoeing, hunting, trapping and wandering in and around the Nahanni River in Canada ), or the works of Sigurd Ohlson. Again based in Canada, writing about his outdoor experiences in the wilderness.

Cheers, Michael.

I suggest having a look at amazon.co.uk There's a lot of good books there,I'm sure you'd find many of interest.Do a search using keywords for what interests you.
Also,maybe your local library?

Can't believe I forgot to mention "Born to run" by Christopher Mcdougall even if you're not into running (I'm not), great story and a lot of interesting info on different tribes, diet and some "interesting" characters, not forgetting the question of shoes.
A great story I had to read twice and will read again.
