Big campfire kettle

I'm thinking about getting a BIG kettle to either hand from a tripod (Cheers Kev) or sit on my folding grill. When I say big it needs to be 2.5 litres+ as it will be supplying hot water for probably 20 or so people. I'm thinking of the old fashioned type with a big hoop handle on top and a decent spout.

I've had a look on ebay but had no luck. Does anyone know where I could acquire such an item?

Cheers

Mesquite,
I remembered that you had a decent sized kettle just after I had posted:rolleyes:

The one linked to looks great, I'll have another look at ebay.

Chris,
I could use a pan but it wouldn't be as convenient.

Cheers

Yup, still in my shed but I won't be selling it just yet

Did you get the one I linked to or was it snaffled by someone else?

In the woods if possible.

I do see the attraction of the traditional kettle style, and IMO there's nothing to beat the traditional style of spout for ease of pouring, but in a camping situation there's a lot to be sid for the Kelly/Ghillie style so that might be worth considering. The main things they have going for them are their incredible speed and fuel efficiency. My Ghillie boils about 1.5 litres of water in five minutes flat using a handful of twigs. I would think that I could produce boiling water for 20 people a lot faster with it than you could with a traditional seven litre kettle, and it would certainly use far less fuel -- not even ten percent of what you'd use for a traditional kettle. On the downside for this application, the twig kettles aren't so good at simmering (but it can be done if you fiddle about enough with the air supply) and they're not much use for sitting around to sing songs.

You can get some really big ones: http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39722&p=666635#post666635

It wasn't me that got the one yo linked to Steve but I have found a similar 4 litre one.

Ged, I already have a kelly kettle and know how good they are but the idea of a big kettle is that it can be on or close to the fire pretty much constantly so hot water is there all the time. The fire is pretty much burning solid for the 3 or so days so fuel efficency isn't a consideration.

Lee,

You said in yor last PM to me that this would be sent on the 20/06/2011, I haven't recieved it yet. I sent you a PM on the 23rd asking if it had been sent and have had no reply. I undertand that you have had some issues recently, however I do need the kettle so I can sort out other stuff to go with it etc.

If you can't get this sorted please refund my money and let me know so I can look elsewhere.

I will try to remember pics for you Kev:)

I have already paid for the kettle from Lee, it's getting him to send it and/or respond to PMs that is currently the problem.

Hopefully he will see this and respond/get to sent soon:(
