Be nice to nettles week runs from 17 - 28 May 2006. Almost everyone is familiar with the nettle having experienced its formidable sting. To many it is a troublesome weed that should be eradicated wherever it is found. This point of view has only recently developed. Indeed the humble nettle has played, and continues to play, an important role in the natural world. This website has interesting facts about the wildlife of nettle patches, uses of nettle plants, nettles in the news and games.

I found the site very interesting. One thing though. With the very late spring in my part of Scotland the nettles are hardly out of the ground yet!

I notice it does state that Dock leaves can counteract the effects of nettle sting - I thought someone posted something here that discredited that fact?

Also, I can't help notice they're cheating - Be Nice to Nettles Week is more than a week long!

I belive its not the dock leave its self but the sap/juice give the leave a good old squeeze (shore Ray Mears shows this on one of his DVDs)
