I think its a sad day, can't remember the stats but the folk show audience has increased vastly under his stewardship.......glad he's doing something in his own.....

So why was he finished then? I'm no great fan of folk music myself but always have radio 2 on when I'm in the "the lab" ( okay the garage loft!) and if he came on, I listened. Heard a few decent tunes etc.

but he always seemed to run a canny show to me.

bit of a shame really

No idea..... Might just be to make a change, could be due to the bbc moving to media city..... Could be he upset the wrong folks or wouldn't play ball. Listened to his independent show and have to say it was good. Hope he's able to keep it going

I worked with Mr Harding in 1988 on a Radio 2 show about Cajun music. I've got a photo somewhere...

Had dealings with him in the Dales. Only concerned with his self interests.
Also seen by a lot of "younger" emerging and less Carthy /Waterstone crowd as getting out of touch with the grassroots scene. A fair few establishment folk clubs are loosing members - both due to age and younger crowd deserting to form alternative clubs, that are more up to date. At least locally
